Thousands kilometers of roads in Trans Nzoia county are set to be rehabilitated following the purchase and subsequent commissioning of Sh 500 million road maintenance equipment.
Governor Patrick Khaemba who was flanked by area senator Henry Ole Ndiema, deputy speaker of the county assembly David Kapoloman, CECS and a couple MCAs today commissioned the equipment in Kitale.
The high-tech equipment include 10 motor graders, five tippers, five drum rollers, an excavator, wheel loader, concrete mixers and culvert making balloons among others.
Khaemba asserted that the equipment will ease the cost and swiftness by which roads will be maintained across the five sub counties adding that committees at ward levels will deal with the works in their jurisdictions.
He said previously it cost Sh 1.5 million to construct a kilometer of road but with the newly acquired machines the same will cost only Sh 400,000 which is a drastic cut on the cost.
A mammoth crowd witnessed the commissioning held at the railways grounds in Kitale town with much applause to the governor for the great milestone he has driven the county.
